Building software projects: automate with Make.

October 4, 2018 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Rackham Building, Earl Lewis Room, 3rd Floor East

We will discuss the concept of software component dependencies, and why it is important to be aware of them. We will have a hands-on experience with tools to express those dependencies, and automate the building of a software project. We will go through hands-on exercises and see how expressing the dependencies decreases the time to build a project. This workshop can be especially helpful for those working with multiple files of code in a compiled language (C, C++, Fortran), although anyone who routinely writes or uses code in their research may find it useful: Even if  you do not write code too often, you may have to deal with building others’ software projects.

Please bring a laptop if you would like to follow the hands-on exercises.
