Introduction to UNIX data processing tools

January 15, 2019 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Rackham Building, Earl Lewis Room, 3rd Floor East

This workshop will introduce the UNIX command line, with a focus on tools for working with data.  We will first review basic UNIX command line concepts including working with files and managing jobs.  We will then cover several command-line tools including sort, grep, unique, sed, and awk. Finally we will cover using pipes to connect these basic tools together to build more complex data-processing pipelines.

No prior exposure to Unix is required. Participants should bring a laptop if they want to work with the examples during the presentation, but this is optional.
