Unix command line and Gnu core utilities

September 20, 2017 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Rackham Building, West Conference Room, Fourth Floor

This is an introductory workshop on using the Unix command line.  After introducing basic techniques for managing processes and files, we will cover some of the core utilities that are used to manipulate text and binary data on a Unix system, including sort, grep, paste, cut, join, uniq, split, tr, and others. We will then discuss how pipes and I/O streams can be used to build up complex data processing pipelines.  If time permits, we may cover a bit of Awk.
